Forget about “healthy” power bars and “healthy” vegetable chips. These easy healthy snacks are all you need in your life. Whether you need something on the go, in your office or when you’re watching Netflix and chewing your nails just isn’t enough – you’ll love these.
3 pm and I’m pretending not to be asleep at my desk.
Diamonds and snickers are a girls’ best friend, and well, I only got money for snickers. For 3 of them, because it’s 3 pm right now.
Ooooh and my colleague brought those espresso cupcakes to work today, they were good. Well they were a little dry and I had 2 of them already, but yolo and tomorrow I’m starting to eat healthy anyway. One is not that big of a deal. Two neither.
The next day I did the same thing. And had the same weirdo conversation with myself. Aaaaaaahhhh office memories.
After I gained some extra belly fat, I started bringing my own food and stopped eating whatever people brought to work.
To my surprise surprise, my colleagues liked what I brought to work. Yes, the falafels, salads and even the black bean brownies I made one time. Even after I told them they were with beans and they looked at me as if I’m some poor person who eats beans out of the dumpster.
So, now to make snacks enjoyable and healthier, I decided to share some healthy snack ideas with you.
Many of these snacks are low in calories, some aren’t, but they’re all nutrient dense and will help you feel and look awesome.
Some of these are one-ingredient snacks, others can be put together in 2 min and then there are others that you can make ahead and be happy (just click on the link for the recipe).
Now let’s take a look.
Easy healthy snacks for every occasion
0-Calorie Healthy Snacks
These healthy foods are low in calories, nutrient-dense and perfect for when you’re gonna eat without even realizing it. I’m talking about when you’re watching TV or in front of the computer.
Radishes are a great snack if you crave something crunchy and spicy. They’re such an underestimated little vegetable and it makes me kinda sad that this anti-cancer food doesn’t get enough attention. But this is about to end.
All you really need to do to prep radishes is wash them and then eat the red part. If you’re feeling really fancy, you can also slice the radishes and add some spice or vinegar.
Sliced cucumber with some salt, vinegar/lemon juice and herbs
Sounds like the craving of a pregnant woman, but this is a great little snack you can eat in front of the TV instead of chips. Vinegar and lemon juice suppress appetite and cucumber is crunchy, so no kale chips for me today.
Isn’t it amazing how strawberries are super delicious and have only 47kcal/cup. I mean… And then you’re good to go with your vitamin C, because you’ve just gotten your daily dose.
My favorite fruit and it has almost no calories. So fresh and so clean and also a good source of vitamin C. Watermelon doesn’t need a fancy way of preparation just cutting and slicing.
Easy Healthy Snacks for Work / On the Go
These clean eating snacks are perfect for an in-between meal, when you can be more mindful and need something healthy to satisfy your cravings and to prevent you from overeating later.
Bananas might have more calories than most fruits, but they’re a great source of potassium and prebiotics to help out your gut health. My favorite part about bananas is that I don’t need to prep anything about them. No need to wash, slice or even wash my hands after peeling. So even if I forget to take a snack with me – banana’s always there to help a hungry person out.
The other food you can always rely on, even if you forget to take a healthy snack with you, are almonds. They’re a great source of vitamin E to make us age slower than a turtle, protein to get stronger than The Hulk and fiber to have a better digestion than…tag someone who has great digestion. Plus studies show, if you snack on almonds in between meals you’re less likely to overeat after that.
Always and forever my favorite. If you ever crave chips, but want something better and healthier, pistachios are here for you to put a smile on your face. They’re again a great source of protein and fiber, which makes them perfect to satisfy your cravings and they’re a great source of Magnesium, vitamin B6 and iron.
Make your own trail mix. Seriously. There’s nothing more disappointing than buying a trail mix and finding out it’s full of raisins. I mix some walnuts, almonds, cranberries and chopped dark chocolate. And if I’m feeling really fancy, I’d add some coconut shavings.
I know, you need to drink your smoothie within seconds so that antioxidants don’t die forever and ever. Truth is, there’s still more magic in a 6-hour old smoothie than in a snickers. So make your smoothie in the morning and take it with you. Here’s my favorite smoothie recipe right now. Or take a look at my other smoothie recipes.
Healthy Snacks for when you have a sweet tooth
These healthy snacks need some preparation, but are there for you to satisfy your sweet (and sometimes chocolate) tooth.
Apple with peanut butter
I don’t actually do this one because raw apples make me wanna scratch my ears, but people swear by it. My version is a spoonful of peanut butter. Or two.
Two of these are all you need to satisfy your afternoon chocolate cravings. Recipe here.
Healthy, flourless blueberry muffins
Prep ahead these high-fiber flourless blueberry muffins & get one for each day. Recipe here.
People eat overnight oats for breakfast, I often eat smaller portions as a snack. Makes for 2 snacks – morning and afternoon. Will reduce those sugar and peanut butter cravings and keep you satisfied. Recipe with yogurt here, vegan version – here.
Yogurt with berries and nuts
Healthy and super satisfying little snack or breakfast. You can make this in 2 minutes and you don’t even need a recipe, but here’s one.
These chocolate squares are among my favorite sweets. They’re sweetened with blended dates, so you get all the fiber and antioxidants and don’t contain any flour. Are also gluten-free. And will definitely satisfy a chocolate craving. Recipe here.
And that is it! These are among my favorite healthy snacks and now that I reminded myself how good almonds are, I’m gonna go get myself a handful of those, because I’m not getting younger.
