This is a simple detox drink with basil that is full of antioxidants, alkalizing and super refreshing during summer. It’s a great anti-inflammatory recipe that you can make every day, it only takes 5 minutes!
Update: This is one of the first recipes I posted when I started my blog 5 years ago. I kinda cringe when I read some of the things I wrote here, but I’m not gonna change a thing…except for the pictures and I’ll add one or two changes to make this recipe more anti-inflammatory. I just made it today again after I lost about half of my weight in sweat and it’s delicious, refreshing and super healthy! Give it a try. Here goes 2015 Stella:
These last few days have been CRAZY.
Like Aerosmith crazy. I wish.
As much as I would’ve loved to be Alicia Silverstone or Liv Tyler in that video, and do all those crazy things like be in a strip club and drive a car in the sun, the sad truth is: I am not.
Instead I was stuck here behind closed doors for about 3 days, making my blog and trying to put every detail into place.
And now I’m very happy with it. True it might have cost me 20 hours less sleep and 3-days sun deprivation, but who’s counting? I wasn’t the only one thrilled with the results of my website: all the spammers who took it down for 12 hours seemed to really like it as well.
Before I fall asleep in 1 minute, I want to give you the recipe for the basil detox smoothie that saved my life these days.
It’s almost not a smoothie anymore and more like an alcohol-free mojito without sugar and whatever they put inside.
Okay. I have actually never had a mojito. I like pina colada.
But I can guarantee you, this smoothie is more refreshing, delicious and happy-making than any alcoholic drink in the entire beautiful universe.
HEALTH AND BEAUTY BENEFITS
With basil, lemon and apple this detox smoothie is a perfect way to start your day. It makes you wake up – like that. I just snapped my fingers. Sometimes I also add a little bit ginger for more anti-inflammatory properties and better digestion.
Forget about coffee and all that acidifying crap. This basil detox smoothie is very refreshing and can even keep a person who hasn’t seen sunshine in 3 days and hasn’t slept in 36 hours, alive, fresh and in quite a good mood. Tested. By me.
This recipe is:
- alkalizing
- anti-inflammatory
- anti-bacterial
- antioxidant
- detoxifying
- collagen-boosting
I must admit it’s a little sour, because of the lemons, but this gives it that special something that makes us awake and fresh. You can also choose to not add that many lemons if you wish.
My basil detox smoothie also gives a nice glow to the skin of a half asleep person. Everyone was like – “Look she’s sleeping. But her skin though. It’s glowing.” They’re all just jealous.
Basil Detox Drink

This is a refreshing detox drink with basi that is super tasty and healthy. Make this anti-inflammatory recipe more regularly to reduce inflammation, improve digestion and your skin, it's ready in around 5 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1-2 Lemons
- 2 Apples
- handful basil leaves
- 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
Instructions
- Squeeze the lemons to lemon juice.
- Wash and cube the apples
- Wash the basil leaves
- Put everything in your blender, add water (I added 3-4 cups) and blend until smooth. (Choose speed depending on your blender, I blended it at low speed - as far as I know and from my own experience this is the best to get a smoother texture).
- Add some ice cubes and enjoy!
Notes
I added 2 lemons, but the drink was a little sour. I enjoyed it, but if you don't enjoy sour recipes too much, I would suggest starting with one lemon and adjusting from there. You can always add more lemon if needed.
